Referees Information for 2015 and future seasons
The following is a message from our Nepean Referees Group to all Sunday Football participants.
A record start for the 2015 Football Season: It is with great pleasure that I confirm that this year the Nepean Referees Group (NRG) are starting the 2015 season just a few referees shy of where we ended last year. The past couple of months the NRG management team have remained focused on two aspects, retaining of referees from 2014 and developing new referees into our system. As of today we currently have over 150 registered referees which is an outstanding result. Our forecast is to reach 200 referees during the middle part of our season.
This year we commence the season with a fit and focused group of referees ready to officiate the laws of the game and protect players as best we can from injury. This year our senior referees especially have been briefed to start this season ensuring that any serious breaches of the laws of the game are dealt with immediately. We will move swiftly on the following areas of our laws of the game:
Violent Conduct: The act of Violent Conduct will not be tolerated and if detected, the player will be sent from the field immediately. Striking an opponent in the heat of a match or committing a serious offense whilst the ball is not within playing distance will be watched closely by our referees.
Serious Foul Play: Every year we see acts of serious foul play and 20it is a law of the game that we must act on quickly to avoid potential injury to players.
Language: Officially a player can be sent from the field for offensive, insulting or abusive language and/or gestures. Whilst we understand that language can be part of the game as players become frustrated, we will not tolerate any language outbursts directed towards players, officials, coaches or spectators. Can we also remind all players that if you are in the unfortunate position of receiving a red card please accept this and leave the field without hesitation. Every year we see some players who do not accept the red card and continue t o swear at referees and/or players. This will then constitute an incident report for any offense that occurs after the initial red card offense and could then attract further punishment. Our job is to report the facts and our referees are trained to listen, observe and document for report writing reasons.
Abuse of an official: Our referees have been thoroughly trained and briefed regarding this offence and abuse of officials will not be tolerated. Whilst the playing field can be a lonely place for a referee under a verbal attack from players and/or spectators, rest assured that once the ref eree documents his/her reports and we submit them to Nepean FA the matter will be followed up as a priority. We acknowledge and understand that referees will always receive some level of criticism from players however if it escalates into violence and language the referee will take action. This may include sending the player from the field, asking marshals to remove coaches and/or spectators.
Summary: This will be an exciting year ahead and our goal is to always try and keep players on the field. Our referees are trained and educated to achieve this goal however not at the expense of player safety and the laws of the game. I wish everyone a successful year ahead.
